#30DaysofAction
for Black Lives in America
Press Release : June 1, 2020
Ammunition Theatre Company (AMMO) was born out of a desire to accelerate representation in the arts, explore the meaning of identity in an ever-changing America, and shift mainstream storytelling toward ethnically diverse perspectives.
We remain committed to encouraging difficult conversations, challenging mainstream thought, and amplifying new voices particularly in light of the brutal murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony Mcdade, Sean Reed, Nina Pop, David McAtee and countless named and unnamed others as a result of the ongoing problem of police brutality.
To support the national focus on rapid change, we are using this time to educate ourselves and follow organizations and community leaders who are already doing this work. Here are some places to start: NAACP, Black Lives Matter, The Movement for Black Lives, and the ACLU. Personally, we are offering a #30DaysofAction social media campaign. Each day we will highlight a different action that we can all take to support the dismantling of broken systems and the empowerment of Black people, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community.
We also have several virtual theatre events coming up that will offer space for community engagement and creativity. Those events include a social justice themed talent hour, a devised piece of interactive theatre, and a handful of short videos that will be found on all of our social media platforms. Follow us!
